Welcome to Wild Roots Montessori
in Park City

A Holistic, Nature-Based Program for Children 3 to 9 years old.

About Wild Roots Montessori in Park City

Wild Roots Montessori in Park City operates Monday through Thursday, 8:30am-3:00pm, Fridays 8:30-12:30.  Our day follows a typical Montessori work cycle with one work period in the morning for individual work, followed by circle time and a work period in the afternoon. Each day will also include ample time for movement, including recess and kinesthetic activities such as yoga, group games, and hikes.

Our Philosophy

Nestled in mountains of Park City, Utah, we offer the opportunity for your child to learn and grow.  Our program was founded on a number of principles, including outdoor education, a rigorous curriculum, and experiential, hands-on learning while following a Montessori approach. We follow place-based learning and when we are not working in the classroom, we are eager to get outside and learn in natural environment. Maria Montessori once said, “The land is where our roots are. The children must be taught to feel and live in harmony with the Earth”. Our goal is to do just that. As we follow Montessori's path, children will develop confidence, independence, and resilience for a life of learning!

At Wild Roots Montessori in Park City, we place a high priority on ensuring that each child's individual needs are met. We want children to explore and learn in a positive, safe, supported environment. We value the importance to create a peaceful atmosphere where children feel nurtured and empowered. In addition to academics, students will be guided in emotional regulation, social interaction skills, conflict resolution and empathy.

At Wild Roots Montessori in Park City, you will discover a creative and nurturing Montessori experience that focuses on learning, kinesthetic activities, and the therapeutic value of nature. We believe that learning about the world should be a beautiful adventure. We believe that science should be messy, that books are like treasure, and that struggles can be just as valuable as successes. We believe that getting our hands in the dirt is good for our bodies as well as our souls. We believe that blending letter sounds, finding peace in guided meditation, honing math skills, and identifying wildflowers should be all in a day's work. At Wild Roots Montessori in Park City, we believe that each child has their own strengths, passions, and their own unique style of learning. Our program nurtures those gifts, celebrates natural curiosity, and encourages children to become lifelong learners as they explore the amazing world around them.

What is Nature-based Education

At Wild Roots Montessori in Park City, we believe that the natural world provides an exceptional classroom to inspire wonder, independent learning and critical thinking. By bringing elements of nature into the classroom as well as learning in the outdoors.  Students can participate in carefully created outdoor lessons that integrate science and math, history and social studies, languages and art.

Early Childhood

The Early Childhood level, for children ages 3 to 6, encourages preschoolers to explore and discover, to collaborate with classmates, and to take ownership of their education. The Montessori Method encourages self-directed learning that promotes self-confidence, independent thought and action, and critical thinking, while fostering social-emotional and intellectual growth. During the uninterrupted blocks of work time (typically 2 hours in length), children may work at their own pace and fully immerse themselves in an activity without interruption. Your child’s work cycle involves selecting an activity, exploring as long as they like, cleaning up the activity and returning it to the shelf, and then making another work choice. This cycle respects individual variations in the learning process and facilitates the development of coordination, concentration, independence, and a sense of order. When combined with guided lessons from our teachers, this level of engagement fosters a deeper assimilation of information for our students.

Lower Elementary

What sets Montessori apart in the elementary years (ages 6 to 12) is the individually paced curriculum that challenges children academically and safeguards their well-being and sense of self. Engaging as contributing members of a respectful community, they learn to question, think critically, and take responsibility for their own learning—skills that will support them in later education and in life. Older children serve as role models within our community. They support the growth and development of younger children through socialization, assisting with new work, or teaching skills they have mastered themselves. Within this supportive, inclusive community, children work through the curriculum at their own pace, accelerating during some tasks or taking additional time with others.

Friday Program

Our additional Friday program is set up to offer enrichment for our students, 8: to 12:30. Each month we will offer themed activities in order to develop skills in many different areas of life to set the foundation for a well-rounded, healthy lifestyle. We will cover topics like mindfulness, where we explore yoga, sound-guided hikes, relaxing art, guided meditations, and healthy meals. Our goal is to give children the opportunity to discover the elements of life through class themes of science, survival skills, dance & movement, reading, math, cooking, the five senses, and so much more.
